Regulator Cracked
faster we spin
and faster
shit
look at us
grief swamps
his
lungs, drowning
gentle words
before they land
… one
worry spins
your
gut, flinging
help aside till
care flakes brittle
… two
rage boils
our
muscles, curdling
nascent smiles
while seeding hate
… three
wild glee bloats
their
hearts, spiralling
blinding peaks
torn apart from ‘we’
… four
faster we spin,
stretched –
fraying, torn
fragmented
breathing…
in
out
eyes open
we
in out
eyes open
and they
in out
eyes open
as one
our world
exhales

Stones
one in the throat
smooth and round
choking adamantine
imperviousone in the belly heavy
misshapen
sharpish corners prod
intrudingone at the feet
sinking
into sucking mireyet still
scope tickles
deep
at sparking corerolling these stones
carefullynurturing
opalescent gems

The Emptiness
— elegy in retrospect —
and still I count
that measureless time
when you were here
the relentless
procession of moments
since you were not
again – again – again
the flickering sunrise aches
in weighty silence
no friendly bell again to sound
in time for a cosy cup
the empty sky of a loaded day
coldly backlights the loss of tensegrity
once gift-wrapped in your hug
each orbit of the sun less vibrant
without you
my friend
time an aspect of space
that ebbs and flows
each day
and vacant eons slowly fill
the space
you left behind
and still I count
-
ocean fire
the colour white —
symbol of purity, clarity, serenity, wisdom….. and death
oceans deep
our gardens fade
in relentless choking
heat
sunshine swells
we stretch content
with shade cloth ever in
reach
blind eyes smile
in careless pleasure
a coral reef sprinkled
white
heedless yet
of the colour death
seeping the seabeds’
crown
brittled teeth
in death mask grin
bared against the
tide
a ghost reef gleams
under crystal jade
an echo of lifetimes
past
our loss too
we crabs in a kettle
blithely simmering into the night‘ocean fire’ was inspired by the ongoing work of the Coral Gardeners, as documented beautifully in their five-minute film ‘Ocean on Fire – Who listens when the ocean cries for help?’

Cattus
you
with your wide
green gaze
beseeching all
and nothing
seeking pleasure
in a caress
only to hiss
and flee
when closeness
overwhelms
I miss you

wild mother…
primordial kinship stirs
with salty caress
her ‘otherness’ pulling deep
true commune lost to time

Hope Framed
In gilded frame a tropical sunset
reflection of the joyous radiance
of a freshly shining couple
Not a lie – not exactly
But she is already broken, he
a victim to belief
that love can heal all
